Welcome to the world Mr Reuben!

Heather & Penny, informal portraits

These two little friends of mine were off to a party when they gave me a minute of their time for some casual pre-party shots.  Beautiful models and great party outfits!

Amateur: one who engages with the medium for the love of it

Just reading 'the photographic portrait' by Robin Gillanders - I love his take on 'amateur' vs 'professional':  'Although I earn my living through photography, I present myself here as an amateur in the true sense of the word: that is, as one who engages with the medium for the love of it.' (Gillanders, 2004).  Always important to remember why you are doing something.

This series is a favourite of mine - The Bee with her grandfather, on holiday in the Czech Republic.

Playing with soft focus

Just been editing some of Helen & Alex's wedding pictures, & liking the soft focus look... I don't like it to over-stated so it may be a case of spot the difference!

Helen & Alex, wedding

Favourites from the wedding of my friends Helen & Alex, which took place near Cambridge in July of this year.  I was not the photographer but took my camera along for the ride.
Congratulations lovely people!

Liz, headshots

Liz as after some more formal headshots for professional use, as well as a few more fun relaxed shots for personal use - my dog Sesame stepped in for a couple too!  This photo shoot took place earlier this month in my back garden, and these are a few of our favourites.

Andrew & Stella, professional headshots

I photographed Andrew & Stella back in June 2011.  Their shoot took place at The Oxford Union - I suggested it as it is a venue with both a garden and many different, beautiful inside spaces - all with a distinguished air and great natural light - and has a great central location.  Andrew & Stella are lawyers, and were looking for headshots for their new website.  The shoot took one hour, and produced some great photos, which the couple were really happy with.  These are a couple of my favourites.

Late nights, ginger wine & photos to edit

I've decided it is time to enter the blogosphere, as a great way to share some of my favourite pieces of photography work as they happen.

Exciting times - my photography business is taking off, and Maya the Bee (my favourite model; her auntie Jeannie started the name Bee) will be one in just over a month!  Yowza, time flies.  Meanwhile, I'm busy re-hauling my website and trying to think of clever ways to market my photography - marketing is easily a full time job all on its ownio...  And at the same time, I'm snapping as often as I can, plus playing full-time mum to the girl who has rocked my world.  Basically my life involves lots of late night of photo editing, accompanied by glasses of ginger wine (not that many) and the pleasure of partaking in those strange radio programmes most people don't get to hear (loving Late Junction on Radio 3).  Right, time to get on with some editing - shh, the Bee's asleep!
